SUPERstitious

I admit that I’m superstitious. I’m the kind who wears read to important exams, who eats (in this order) a hotdog and two eggs on exam days (so I can get 100), who plans the week according to the horoscope, and who does online tarot readings (because physical reading is such a hassle).

And I was very delighted to find that Taurus should go on an overseas trip, according to the year 2008 horoscope of a magazine. Yipee!

Are you superstitious?

The irony!!

I will be leaving for Japan on the 28th of June. My plane will arrive in Fukuoka at 8:40pm. That’s not related to my topic though!

My current eye candy Ikuta Toma will be starring in a drama called Maou. So exciting! The title is even related to this blog’s antagonist – Daimaou. And! Toma is from Hokkaido, the land of lavender fields in summer. Sounds like fate telling me to watch the drama. (My imagination is too much, I admit.)

The show starts in July. But it’s on Friday at 10pm. No way will any sane host family allow their (whatever I’m supposed to be called) hog the TV at 10pm.

And it’s so stupid to download it when I can see it on TV. *sob* will I get to watch it only when I’m back in Singapore?

Is Daimaou working his curse on me again?!

—PS
even though I’m complaining a lot. I cannot wait to get there. Who cares abuot 4 dogs and two meows!

Youthful Youth is Ambitious

I’ve borrowed new books from the library and it featured lavender fields in Furano, Hokkaido. My dream is to roll in a field of lavender, but mom says people will think I’m insane.

Should I visit Hokkaido? It’s so high up north. Even the Shinkansen takes 7 hours from Tokyo. And from Fukuoka to Tokyo, it’s a 5-hour ride. I don’t mind sitting till my butt is flat , because!!!! I’m so youthful!

Still, Youthful needs to consder her budget. Does she want a nice detailed visit of Kyoto or a rushed roll in the lavender fields.

Youthful hopes everyone will be watching the Olympics, and not travel, even though it’s the summer vacation. She will keepall her fingers crossed.

I’m a bit worried about my fashion sense. Plus, having no make up on is impolite in Japan. And having hairy legs (which I do!) will cause old ladies to faint.

Help!

I’ve got a new haircut

I went to my trusted hairdresser today. I say “trusted” because he’s honest about how unruly my hair is and he tells me stuff like, “If I cut it any short, it’ll puff up when it’s dry. Your hair’s really dry.” Er… thanks man.

I told him to thin my hair and I wanted bangs. Bangs because I look like a something from a Japanese horror movie with my bangs long.

After he cut my hair, I realise that I look like Chibi Maruko-chan with long hair. Faint, but it’s better if I pin my hair up.

I should get that yellow hat.

Tarot reading

Media_httpxf4xangacom_izwmi

The card represents the critical factor for the issue at hand. Queen of Wands, when reversed:
The dark essence of fire behaving as water, such as steam: The natural
embodiment of passion and sensuality, who will do anything to the be
the center of attention. A seducer who calculatingly dons the guise of
what others desire. A cocky and domineering person, who pushes anyone
or anything aside to get what she wants. One who is vengeful and quick
to take offense without good cause. May indicate infidelity and
contempt for a relationship.

Hope I remember what it was I was reading about. ;)

Things I’ll miss: Cheap Fruits

Another excuse to post on the blog. Here’s a new topic: Things I’ll miss while I’m in Japan.

First is: cheap fruits

Muskmelons- known as “melon” in Japan. Very expensive fruit there, because of the price, commoners cannot eat much of these so they invented the melon bun (melon pan). See the wikipedia entry here. It’s also called: buoluo bao in Cantonese.

The fruit in the photo costs only RM1.25 = 42 yen. I’ve read that one costs thousands of yen in Japan.

See how juicy it is. It even tastes like artificial melon flavoring. Yumm

PS The commoner part is adapted from Ouran High Host Club.
PSS I’m a BIG fan of icanhascheezburger.com

Updates!

I finally have my Japanese visa and I have information on my host family!

This sticker costed me nights of worry. I finally have it!

Another news, the travel agent here tells me that I do not need a transit visa. I will call the airlines tomorrow to double check.

I have info on my host family. I won’t post much about their private info.

My hosts are Mr J, Mrs J and K-kun (who likes games). I will be sleeping in a five-tatami room on a sofa bed.

They have a total of five animals. Yes, you’ve read right. FIVE animals. I don’t mind animals but I’ve never been around FIVE animals. And they’ve never showed a family with FIVE animals in J-dramas. Good thing I’m not allergic.

Oh, I’m expected to help walk the dogs. Perhaps I can exercise and explore the neighborhood and take lots and lots of pictures ^___^. Cool.

manga or anime?

Prologue:
I posted on Facebook that I’m now reading One Piece. A friend then asked if I’ve seen the anime. That got me thinking, why do I like manga more than anime?

I started off reading manga before watching anime. But the anime Slam Dunk is what made me fall in love with the Japanese language. It’s a lot harder to find Japanese manga here too.

I love how manga is different from novels. WIth a manga, you don’t have to have the story play out in your head, the manga-ka has drawn it all out. But I’ve also discovered that my imagination becomes rusty if I neglect novels.

I like manga because they’re much quicker to finish than an anime. In an anime, the story is usually 30 minutes, but with a book, you can zip pass it really quick and start reading another book.

With manga, the characters are usually drawn with more details. “Usually” because I *have* seen some anime characters that look better than the original manga characters.

With manga, you can turn back the pages and laugh ten more times. In an anime, it’s much harder to rewind and rewind.

I love manga. They’re portable, small and can be read anywhere.

I’ll always love manga more than anime.

Fingers and toes crossed

I went to the Japanese consulate today. They have very pretty dolls on exhibition, I’ll bring my camera there next time :D

I submitted my documents. The guy there was suspicious about the letters from Kyushu University (Sheesh) And he asked me, “Why didn’t you apply in Singapore?” I didn’t buy my air tickets yet AND I want to come back for my vacation, that’s why!

If everything’s smooth, they won’t call me and I can collect my visa on Tuesday at 3pm.

Ceiling cat!
