Liau Yun Qing YQtravelling

Look back at 2017 + What to expect from YQtravelling in 2018

I am a big fan of making plans for the new year. Around November, you’ll see me with stacks of paper as I read up on goal-setting, and try to map out my to-dos for the new year.

But as I was listening to a podcast on (what else) Setting Your Goals for 2018,  I realized I had forgotten something important.

I’ve forgotten to look back at 2017, appreciating the good things and figuring out what needs fixing.

My travels in 2017

If you’ve been following for a while, you’d have noticed that I’ve not been travelling as intensely as I had a few years ago.

It’s weird for a “travel” blog writer to not be travelling. But that’s the reality, travelling is not a priority for me. (Similarly, if you’ve always wanted to travel a lot, you will have to make it a priority and not give excuses.)

Despite my lack of travelling, I did travel a little though I don’t remember the specific dates

  • January/February: Taiwan, for Chinese New Year.
  • March: Manila, Philippines to perform at the Manila Improv Festival with two teams
  • April: Johor for 11-day meditation camp. (I talk about it in this video, jump to the five minutes mark.
  • April: Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur with my mom
  • June, October, December: Kota Kinabalu

This year, I’ve been back to Kota Kinabalu more frequently than the past because my mom was ill. I’m thankful that the bosses at my work let me take leave to accompany her.

It’s still a goal for me to help you travel more, whether it’s career break travel or solo travel. in 2017

This year, I started experimenting with videos. My very first Facebook Live stream wasn’t very smooth but now I’ve figured most of the tech out.

I absolutely love making videos, though I think written blog posts are still very important,

Here are some video content that are useful for you [Both available on Facebook.]

  • Your Big Break, 30 Days of Career Travel Tips
  • 1st Solo Trip, 30 Days of Solo Travel Tips

I started the Female Solo Travellers meetup group in Singapore. We had our first meetup in October, and another in November.

I like these in-person events since we get to meet new people with similar interests.

YQtravelling in 2018

I’ll continue running meetups for Female Solo Travellers meetup group in 2018. If you’re in Singapore, do join us.

In the first half of 2018, I’ll be focusing heavily on career break travel on I’ll figure something out for the later half of the year if I run out of topics.

I’ll be publishing more video content because I think video really does bring across information in a great way. Please subscribe to my YouTube channel to get access to the videos as soon as they are published.

If you have any travel-related questions, send them to me at

    1. Hi Liau,

Indeed now vblogs do seem better. However, I feel there should be a proper combination as we never know changes in behaviours of our audience. Hope you’ll have great year 2018. Wondering if you have any plan of visiting Bhutan. Would be great to see you around here in my country.
